My running partner’s son was obsessed with a series called “Fireman Sam” for MONTHS. Three mornings a week, for months, we’d run with the kids in the strollers and my friend, a grown woman, would answer to “Penny” (another character from the series) rather than “Mommy”, while her 6-mo-old baby was “Elvis” and daddy was “Officer Steele”. My son is only 1 and I haven’t hit this milestone of imaginative interactive play yet, so I found it hilarious! Little did I know, this experience would prepare me on meeting Janet’s family last week in the Presidio, where her son is ALSO “Fireman Sam”! We had a great time talking about everything from firetrucks to animal noises to – ready for this one? – Shaun T from the “Insanity” workout series. Dad does the workout while their 3-year-old cheers him on – “DIG DEEPER” (for all you Insanity fans out there – I loooove that workout!).
